Sorting Music, MP3s Print
Written by Shaniur T I M Nabi
Saturday, 19 November 2005
Currently all the songs are just dumped in alphabetical order in 26 directories, where each directory is the first letter of the artist name. This is making some of the directories virtually empty and some with too many songs. So now I have decided to sort them the way it should be - A directory for each artist and albums as subdirectories. For next month of so, the directory structure will change significantly as I keep adding more songs (you are looking at around 15 gigs of music). It is probably not a good idea to search for songs from the complete mp3 list, as it will not be updated until all is sorted.

There is one problem that I can't find a way to figure out: Often there are album releases that has new songs from various artists. How should I sort them? (1) Create a directory based on the album and dump all the songs there or (2) should I keep the songs under the artists folder and create a subdirectory of that mixed album? At the moment I'm going for option 2. If anyone got a better option. Feel free to chip in :-)
